{"id":1846,"date":"2022-12-02T12:15:41","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T11:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sainttropez.aeroport.fr\/history"},"modified":"2025-04-23T17:37:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T16:37:29","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sainttropez.aeroport.fr\/en\/airport\/history","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide has-w-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1964<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On August 8, 1964, Count Fran\u00e7ois Gazeau and Mr. Marc Den Bosch created a light airfield for pleasure and business on the strip of land stretching between the then Nationale and the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During that first year, the track was made up of grass on land that the owner of the Ch\u00e2teau de La Mole, Baron Charles Boyer de Fonscolombe, agreed to lease to them in memory of Saint-Exup\u00e9ry, of whom he was a close cousin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1973<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On March 15, 1973, the airfield was classified as &#8220;restricted use&#8221; because of its special features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1983<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On May 30, 1983, the airfield was registered on list 3 of French airfields, in category D: intended for business, private and national travel aviation.<br\/>Charles Boyer de Fonscolombe retained ownership of the land and entrusted its operation to a manager. Several companies succeeded one another, until 1989, when Compagnie Financi\u00e8re du Sud-Est JP Magnin &amp; JJ Vaissi\u00e8re, now AGST, took over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1993<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"118\" data-tippy-content=\"1993-en-service-nouvelle-piste\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sainttropez.aeroport.fr\/app\/uploads\/2022\/12\/1993-en-service-nouvelle-piste.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1830\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1995<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opening of the first regular international seasonal service with Geneva and then Zurich (1996).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2006<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new managers are calling for the runway to be used in its entirety to accommodate
